Mission

The mission of Nia Kuumba Spirituality Center is to provide an atmosphere in which African and African American women:

  • Can come together in community to be challenged and encouraged to live as fully as possible, lives of purpose (Nia) and creativity (Kuumba)
  • Are empowered to express their uniqueness as women of vision and hope
  • Can be nourished spirituality through prayer, mentoring, spiritual direction, body-mind-spirit practices, and mutual support.

Sisters of St. Francis Oldenburg

Nia Kuumba Spirituality Center is sponsored by the Sisters of St. Francis of Oldenburg, Indiana. The  mission of the Sisters of St. Francis is as follows:

"We...are women of prayer, committed to the Gospel values as lived by St. Francis and Mother Theresa Hackelmeier. From our life in community we are sent to extend the mission of Jesus through our presence and service. Enlivened by a spirit of justice, reconciliation and peace, we collaborate with others in responding to the needs of the world."
